Fasting Smartly How do People with Chronic Diseases Monitor Their Health During Ramadan

Khaberni - With the approach of the blessed month of Ramadan, fasting is no longer just a spiritual and physical experience, but has become supported by smart technologies that place your health under close surveillance.

According to "Gulf News", experts confirm that AI-powered wearable devices accompany the fasting individuals throughout the day, providing instant readings of heart rate, sugar levels, oxygen levels, sleep, and even hydration indicators.

Dr. Hala Abdel Karim, a family medicine consultant at Burjeel Medical City, explains that these devices have become more like a "health companion" than just a technical tool. They analyze vital data daily, giving the user a clearer picture of how their body responds to fasting, noting that these readings are informative and do not replace direct medical evaluation.

The importance increases for those with chronic diseases. Monitoring changes in sugar levels or heart rate can early reveal signs of stress, dehydration, or sudden drops.

While some devices estimate hydration levels through indirect physiological indicators, AI algorithms analyze patterns and alert when necessary.

On his part, Deepak Molasery, a physiotherapy specialist at Medcare Physio and Rehab Centre, indicates that continuous monitoring of sugar has enabled many diabetic patients to fast more safely, by tracking moment-to-moment trends instead of just general recommendations.

Tracking effort rate and heart rate helps in avoiding exhaustion and dizziness, especially for athletes or heart patients, allowing for a balanced fasting plan without completely eliminating daily activity.

According to the experts, some of the most prominent features that made a difference during Ramadan include:

Instant alerts for sugar levels

Hydration indicators

Sleep analysis and its quality

Recovery rates to determine the best time for exercise

Smart guidance for regulating physical effort

These tools help the fasting individual know when to reduce their activity, when to exercise, and how to replenish fluids after breaking the fast, according to the experts, but they emphasize a key point, that technology is an important support, but does not replace consulting a doctor, especially for special health conditions.
