Signs You Should Not Ignore After Taking Vitamin D Supplements

Khaberni - Nutrition experts warn that feeling unwell or pain after taking vitamin "D" supplements may indicate an imbalance of elements within the body, despite the widespread use of these supplements to treat globally prevalent deficiencies.

Nutritionist Morgan Walker explained in statements to the "Verywell Health" website that the most common reason for these symptoms is high calcium levels in the blood, as vitamin "D" is fat-soluble and plays a key role in regulating calcium absorption.

When taking high doses for long periods, or even moderate doses for some sensitive individuals, calcium levels may rise and troublesome symptoms may appear.

Symptoms of high calcium include nausea, constipation, fatigue, muscle weakness, headaches, increased thirst, and urination, in addition to what is described as "brain fog".

In severe cases, it can lead to disturbances in heart rhythm or kidney problems. Walker also noted that magnesium deficiency could exacerbate the problem because the body needs it to metabolize vitamin "D", and its deficiency may lead to symptoms like muscle cramps and sleep disturbances.

He pointed out that feeling unwell immediately after taking the supplement may be due to an allergy to components other than the vitamin itself, such as the oils used in capsules like soybean, coconut, or corn oil. He advised temporarily stopping the supplement upon symptom appearance and conducting blood tests to confirm the level of the vitamin and associated elements.

Walker emphasized the importance of not exceeding the daily dose of 4000 International Units except under medical supervision, warning that excessive consumption could increase the likelihood of side effects.
