Khaberni - As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, the attention of those fasting turns to how to maintain their health during the long hours of fasting, amidst changes in daily lifestyle and dietary habits.
Fasting is considered an important opportunity to enhance physical health and regulate bodily functions, if adhered to with medical guidance and proper nutrition, especially for those with chronic illnesses, making health awareness a fundamental element for safe and balanced fasting.
Health experts confirm that moderate fasting contributes to the improvement of many health indicators, most notably regulating blood sugar levels, reducing harmful cholesterol, and enhancing the health of the heart and blood vessels. It also gives the digestive system a rest period that helps improve its function and contributes to maintaining weight and strengthening immunity.
Doctors agree on the importance of consulting a physician before fasting for those with chronic illnesses, with the aim of assessing their health condition and adjusting medication dosages or timings to ensure safe fasting without health complications.
According to experts, fasting remains a comprehensive health opportunity if coupled with dietary awareness, medical commitment, and proper health behavior, to achieve both its physical and psychological benefits.
In this context, Dr. Khaled Zayed Al Alawneh said that when managed correctly, fasting enhances bodily health and helps prevent a number of chronic diseases, emphasizing the importance of dietary awareness and adherence to medical guidelines, especially for people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart diseases.
In turn, Dr. Mohammed Khalil Zahran explained that following a balanced diet during fasting helps maintain energy and physical activity, urging to increase fluid intake between Iftar and Suhoor, and eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals, to avoid cases of exhaustion and dehydration.
Pharmacist Dr. Furat Mohammed Abu Faraj also stressed that choosing foods wisely during fasting plays a pivotal role in supporting overall health and strengthening the immune system, pointing out the necessity to adhere to the timings of medications and dietary supplements, and not to take them except under medical supervision, especially for patients with chronic diseases.
