Khaberni - An international team of researchers has warned that the acceleration of global warming could lead to a permanent heatwave, and they confirmed that Earth's climate is beginning to shift away from the stable conditions that supported human civilization for thousands of years.
In an article published today, Wednesday, in the scientific journal "One Earth", the researchers clarified that several parts of the Earth system may actually be closer to a "destabilization" phase than previously thought.
The research team highlighted the interplay of a variety of factors that could transform Earth into what is known as the "hot greenhouse", a stage of permanent warmth that poses a severe danger to humans.
The team, led by William Ripple of Oregon State University, pointed out that it would be difficult to stop this path if Earth enters it.
Despite the grim warnings, the researchers affirmed that there is still a "short window of opportunity" to take countermeasures.
