Yedioth Ahronoth Armament of Militias in Gaza Revives Memories of Sabra and Shatila

Khaberni - Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper stated that foreign reports have observed what is described as an increasing pace of Israel arming militias inside the Gaza Strip, noting that the support includes providing these groups with quantities of weapons and fuel, as well as medical care in Israeli hospitals, in addition to food and logistical supplies.

The newspaper's military correspondent, Yoav Zitun, mentioned that this approach raises comparisons among some Israeli circles to the events of the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982 in Lebanon, where a Lebanese militia committed a massacre against Palestinians in the camps, an incident that at the time sparked widespread controversy within Israel and drew criticism of the Israeli army.

The report added that arming the militias in Gaza also brings to mind the controversies of the 1990s concerning the arming of the Palestinian Authority, pointing out that the positions of the Israeli right-wing at that time were opposed to such policies, while today's political scene does not witness similar objections with the same intensity.
