Khaberni - The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East "UNRWA," Phillip Lazzarini, confirmed that the suffering of the people in Gaza is still ongoing despite the ceasefire, which he described as nominal, as civilians are still being killed, and suffer from lack of water, food, and the spread of diseases.
Lazzarini explained in a press conference on Tuesday that "UNRWA" remains the only entity capable of providing widespread services in the Gaza Strip in the absence of an alternative to perform its duties, referring to what he called the silent war in the West Bank, in light of settler attacks and demolitions that also targeted "UNRWA" facilities in East Jerusalem.
He confirmed that "UNRWA" is facing a severe funding crisis, despite the extension of its mandate for three years, warning that it may become unable to continue without urgent financial support, and warned that targeting "UNRWA" could set a dangerous precedent that might affect other United Nations agencies.
