Khaberni - The main committee for the sighting of the lunar months in the Sultanate of Oman announced in a statement today that Wednesday, the 18th of February 2026, will complete the month of Sha'ban for the year 1447 AH, and Thursday will be the first day of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH, corresponding to the 19th of February 2026 - .
Below is the text of the statement:
"All praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and all his companions. Furthermore-
Considering that astronomical science has confirmed that the moon will set on Tuesday, the 29th of Sha'ban of the year 1447 AH, corresponding to the 17th of February 2026, before or at sunset across all provinces of the Sultanate of Oman, therefore its sighting is impossible on this day. Taking into account the established practice of not accepting reports that contradict reality and science when scientific facts confirm the impossibility of sighting, the committee hereby announces:
That Wednesday will complete the month of Sha'ban for the year 1447 AH, corresponding to 18th February 2026, and Thursday will be the first day of the month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH, corresponding to 19th February 2026.
