What happens when you swallow gum

Khaberni - Many myths are prevalent about gum (chewing gum), the most famous of which is that it stays in the stomach for seven years if swallowed. Is this claim scientifically true?
Gum Ingredients:

The base: An insoluble substance that provides the gum with its elasticity and chewing capability over long periods, and it is the main ingredient made from a blend of natural and synthetic polymers, which the body does not digest.

Sweeteners: They give the gum a sweet taste.

Flavorings: They add a variety of flavors.

Stabilizers and colorants: They maintain the shape and color of the gum.

When gum is swallowed, it reaches the stomach like any other food. Although the base is not digested by gastric juices or enzymes, the gum does not stay in the body forever. It passes through the digestive system with little change and is typically excreted within one to three days.
What is the danger of swallowing gum?
Normally, swallowing a single piece of gum does not pose a health risk. However, there are exceptions:

Small children: Swallowing large objects may lead to intestinal blockage due to the small size of the digestive system.

Multiple amounts: Swallowing several pieces of gum in a short period can cause intestinal blockage, especially in people with digestive disorders.

Safety Tips:

Do not give gum to young children.

It is advised to discard the gum when it loses its flavor to avoid accidental swallowing.
