AlQatamin Aqaba is a candidate to be a regional logistics center

Khaberni - Minister of Transport, Nidal Al-Qatamin, emphasized on Monday the importance of developing the maritime transport and logistics sector as it is one of the main pillars for supporting economic growth and enhancing the competitiveness of countries.

During his speech at the opening of the fifteenth International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference (MARLOG 15), organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, and in his capacity as the president of the academy's general assembly for the current session, Al-Qatamin stressed the kingdom's commitment to developing the maritime transport system and enhancing the capabilities of the Aqaba port to be a strategic regional logistics center.

He mentioned that the transport and logistics sector has become a crucial element in ensuring the resilience of supply chains and supporting the goals of sustainable development, amid accelerating global changes, emphasizing that innovation, digital transformation, sustainability, and multimodal integration are fundamental pillars for building modern transport systems capable of meeting the requirements of the global economy.

He explained that Jordan, under the directions of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, is moving forward in implementing the economic modernization vision through developing modern infrastructure, enhancing partnership with the private sector, and stimulating investment in the logistics services sector, contributing to supporting economic growth and creating job opportunities.

Al-Qatamin praised the pioneering role of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in preparing and qualifying Arab competencies, describing it as a successful model for joint Arab cooperation and a leading institution in serving the maritime transport sector and enhancing knowledge and training according to the latest global standards.

He also emphasized the importance of enhancing Arab and regional cooperation in this vital sector, expressing his hope that the conference would result in practical recommendations and innovative visions that support the development of the maritime transport and logistics sectors, and enhance their role in serving economic development and achieving integration between countries.

On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Qatamin conducted several bilateral meetings with Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport in Egypt, the Cypriot Minister of Transport, and the Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, during which they discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation in the fields of maritime transport and logistics services, exchange experiences, and develop regional partnerships that serve the interests of the participating countries and Jordan.

The conference was attended by Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Transport in Egypt, and the president of the academy, Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, along with a number of ministers, officials, experts, and specialists.
