Google employees protest the companys collaboration with the US administration

Khaberni - More than 900 Google employees signed a petition on Sunday demanding the company end its contracts with a group of U.S. government sectors, at the forefront, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to a "Bloomberg" report.

The petition also refers to Google's contracts with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which are the main parties in the recent deportation efforts that swept the country.

More than 1,700 tech workers have also signed a similar petition calling for all tech companies to end their contracts with the Department of Homeland Security and to pressure to end the current wave of deportations.

These demands come in the wake of an increase in displacement rates and actions against immigrants in several U.S. states, as well as casualties in a shooting incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The report confirms that the petition signed by Google employees includes employees from different divisions of the company, with 30% of the signatories working in the "Google Cloud" sector, which provides cloud services to the Department of Homeland Security.

It also indicates that the majority of criticisms from tech sector workers are directed against the company "Palantir," which holds numerous security contracts and develops various technologies for military and security use within the U.S. government, in addition to "Google," which the report confirms has become one of the companies benefiting from the repressive actions carried out by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump.

The employees also demanded the company to try to protect and secure them as much as possible, following attempts by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to enter the company's premises on more than one occasion according to a connected report from "The New York Times."

Immigration and Customs Enforcement relies on Google's cloud services to operate the "ImmigrationOS" system, developed by "Palantir," according to a "CNBC" report and its review of the petition.

The petition also calls on Google management to reinstate tracking applications of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to its app store, as the company had removed all tracking applications.

This petition represents the latest step in a series of ethical protests against tech companies, as Google faced a similar crisis in 2018 due to its handling of sexual assault cases on its premises, as well as demonstrations that emerged from its employees in 2024 due to the company's cooperation with the Israeli occupying army, which resulted in the dismissal of 50 employees according to a "CNN" report at the time.
