Vitamins Not to Be Taken with Coffee

Khaberni - A scientific team from Hungary identified a group of vitamins that should not be taken with coffee, as it can hinder their absorption and may cause harm to the body.

Studies indicate that moderate coffee consumption is beneficial for the heart and blood vessels due to its content of beneficial elements such as antioxidants, but it can hinder the absorption of certain vitamins.

According to experts, coffee may affect the absorption of vitamin D, zinc, calcium, iron, and the B vitamin group, and in some cases may completely reduce their effectiveness.

A Swiss study conducted in 2022 on the effect of coffee on women found that those suffering from iron deficiency absorbed 54% less of this mineral when taking iron supplements with coffee compared to those who took them with water.
Scientists also discovered that caffeine hinders the absorption of vitamin D as it reduces the sensitivity of its receptors, while the body's ability to absorb even small amounts of the B vitamin group is reduced, as these elements are directly excreted in the urine due to the diuretic effect of coffee.

Experts point out the importance of avoiding the consumption of some nutrients together, such as that calcium hinders iron absorption, and zinc limits copper absorption.

It is preferable to take dietary supplements an hour to two hours before drinking coffee or two hours after consuming it to ensure the best absorption of nutrients.
