Hormonal Changes Increase Hair Problems in Menopause

Khaberni - Recent studies indicate that more than 50% of women suffer from hair loss or scalp problems during menopause, and these symptoms are sometimes accompanied by itching and skin flaking.

A survey according to the "Daily Mail" showed that 53% of women in menopause reported hair loss, while about one-fifth of women before menopause suffered from scalp problems during menstruation.

Experts explain that these problems are related to hormonal changes that occur in middle age, where the production of female sex hormones estrogen and progesterone decreases, and menopause typically begins between the ages of 45 and 55.

Ruth Coles, a hair loss expert based in Sussex, says: "Hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle can directly affect scalp health, affecting oil production, skin cell renewal, and the inflammatory response."

Studies confirm that the long-term decrease in estrogen during menopause increases dryness and sensitivity of the scalp, leading to itching, irritation, and flaking, along with hair loss and thinning.

Experts note that hormone replacement therapies (HRT) may help alleviate these symptoms, along with following a healthy diet and taking appropriate dietary supplements to enhance hair and scalp health.

These findings come amid rising interest in hair problems among women, as the number of online searches for terms like "hair loss" and "hair thinning" has more than doubled since 2021, reflecting increased concern about this health and beauty issue.
