Khaberni - The appearance of a mysterious object resembling a giant bird near the Sun sparked widespread controversy on social media, before Russian astronomer Alexander Kiselyov provided a possible scientific explanation for this striking scene.
Experts from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences had observed an unusual object near the Sun using the LASCO telescope, initially assuming it to be a massive galactic body, especially since its apparent size was estimated to be about ten times the size of Earth.
However, Kiselyov believes that the widely circulated image might have been taken earlier, suggesting that the most likely scenario is that the object is a transient comet that approached the Sun.
The scientist explains the bird-like shape by stating that the comet, when coming very close to the Sun, is subjected to immense heat which causes the volatile materials in it, such as water and carbon dioxide, to evaporate, producing a bright tail that appears in the images as stretched wings.
Kiselyov did not rule out other possibilities, including that what was seen could be a plasma formation in the solar corona, just an optical illusion resulting from the angles of photography, or even a technical glitch in the monitoring devices.
