Khaberni - FC Barcelona has announced its withdrawal from the European Super League (Superliga) project, which has sparked widespread controversy over the years.
In 2021, several European clubs caught everyone by surprise by launching the "Superliga," a competition that brought together the giants of European football, independent of the UEFA umbrella.
However, the project failed to see the light due to opposition from the UEFA, league associations, local federations in several countries, and many football institutions.
The strong opposition campaign resulted in the withdrawal of most of the founding clubs, leaving only the rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Barcelona issued a brief official statement on Saturday saying, "Today, FC Barcelona officially informs the European Super League Company and the clubs that were part of it about separating from the Super League project."
This move by Barcelona comes after its recent rapprochement with the UEFA and the European Club Association.
On the other hand, the dissent between Barcelona and Real Madrid has increased recently due to the latter’s pressure to condemn its rival in the "Negreira" case, in which Barcelona is accused of providing money to gain advantages from refereeing.
