FAO Global Food Prices Continued to Decline in January

Khaberni - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported today, Friday, that global food prices fell in January for the fifth consecutive month, supported by lower prices for dairy products, sugar, and meat.

The FAO said its food price index, which tracks monthly changes in a basket of globally traded food commodities, averaged 123.9 points in January, down 0.4 percent from December and 0.6 percent on a yearly basis.

The index is 22.7 percent below its all-time high recorded in March 2022.

Dairy products recorded the largest decrease among the main product groups, dropping five percent on a monthly basis, thanks to lower prices for cheese and butter.
