Khaberni - The US President Donald Trump released a video on Thursday promoting an election conspiracy theory, depicting the former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle as monkeys, which sparked widespread condemnation from Democratic figures.
The clip, which is a minute long, was posted on Trump's social media platform Truth Social. At the end of it, the faces of Obama and his wife Michelle appear on monkeys for about a second, according to "France Press".
By Friday morning, the video had garnered over a thousand likes on the president's platform but drew criticisms from the Democrats.
It was strongly denounced by California Governor Gavin Newsom, a potential Democratic candidate for the 2028 presidential election and one of Trump's harshest critics.
The press office for Newsom posted on X "disgusting behavior from the president, every Republican should condemn this, now".
Ben Rhodes, a senior official at the National Security Council during Obama's tenure, also condemned Trump's post, writing on X "haunt Trump and his racist followers, that Americans in the future will see the Obama family as beloved figures, while viewing him as a blot on our history".
