Khaberni - Israeli newspapers reported that a decision by the Egyptian authorities to raise the transit fees at the “Taba” border crossing from 25 dollars to 60 dollars per Israeli traveler caused widespread dissatisfaction in Israel, coinciding with the decision coming into force without prior notice.
Israeli media reports, including from “i24NEWS” and the “Israel Hayom” newspaper, indicated that the timing is “extremely sensitive”; it coincides with the peak travel time for families and students during Passover, and the increasing reliance on Sinai as an alternative land outlet for international trips given the limited options at “Ben Gurion” airport and the repercussions of the war.
Travelers described the move as “exploiting the current circumstances,” especially with the sharp increase in movement across the crossing in recent days, which placed travelers before sudden and steep financial burdens amidst limited travel options.
Due to the war with Iran and bombing of Ben Gurion airport with the disruption of flights, Israelis are traveling and reaching Tel Aviv via Egypt, Sharm El-Sheikh, and the Taba crossing.
