Khaberni - The Russian agency "RIA Novosti" reported that General Vladimir Alexeyev, Russian Deputy Defense Minister, was targeted in an assassination attempt in the capital Moscow, and was subsequently taken to the hospital.
The agency added that an unidentified gunman fired several shots this Friday morning at Alexeyev's back inside a residential building in Moscow and fled the scene.
Meanwhile, the spokeswoman for the Russian Investigative Committee, Svetlana Petrinko, stated that the committee has initiated a criminal case on charges of "attempted murder and illegal possession of firearms" following the incident that occurred in the northwest of the capital.
Petrinko pointed out that investigators and forensic experts have moved to the incident site, and have begun reviewing surveillance camera footage and listening to eyewitness statements, confirming the continuation of search and investigation operations to identify the individuals involved in the crime.
