11000 cancer patients deprived of specialized and diagnostic treatment inside and outside the Gaza Strip

Khaberni - The Palestinian Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip, on Wednesday, said that cancer patients in the Gaza Strip represent the hardest face of suffering and the unknown fate.

In a press statement on the occasion of World Cancer Day, it added that 11,000 cancer patients are deprived of specialized and diagnostic treatment inside and outside the sector.

The Ministry detailed that 4,000 patients who have referrals for treatment abroad have been waiting for more than two years for the crossing to open and to facilitate their travel.

It mentioned that the closing of specialized hospitals and the destruction of the Gaza Cancer Center have exacerbated the suffering of patients.

The Ministry clarified that the infrastructure for providing care to cancer patients is destroyed and depleted, especially the chemotherapy medications and diagnostic devices.

It pointed out that 64% of cancer medications have zero stock, noting that the lack of early diagnostic and follow-up devices worsens the health condition of patients, such as MRI and mammogram machines.

The Ministry explained that cancer patients are trapped in dire health, social, psychological, and economic conditions.

The Ministry appealed to all agencies to enable patients to travel abroad for treatment, to allow the necessary medications to be brought in, and to rehabilitate the service centers.
