Reuters Peace Council submits proposal for disarming Hamas

Khaberni - Two sources said that the Peace Council, led by U.S. President Donald Trump, submitted a written proposal to the Hamas movement on how to lay down its arms.

One of the sources stated that the proposal, which the N.P.R media organization first reported, was presented to Hamas during meetings held in Cairo last week.

The two informed sources mentioned that the discussions were attended by Nikolay Mladenov and Arie Lightstone.

Mladenov is the Peace Council's envoy to Gaza, appointed by Trump. Lightstone, on the other hand, is an assistant to Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff.

Trump’s plan for Gaza, which was agreed upon by Israel and Hamas in October, calls for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the sector and the commencement of reconstruction along with Hamas laying down its arms.

Mladenov said on Thursday that serious efforts are ongoing to provide relief to the war-torn sector, with a framework agreed upon by mediators that could advance the reconstruction process in Gaza, which has been transformed into rubble in large parts.

On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, Mladenov commented on the X platform, "The matter is now on the table. It requires one clear choice: the complete renunciation of weapons by Hamas and all armed groups, without any exceptions... In this hopeful time, we hope that the officials will make the most appropriate choice for the Palestinian people."

The disarmament talks had stopped with the start of the American-Israeli war on Iran on February 28.
