Between Heaven and Earth A Technical Malfunction Leaves Tourists Stuck in the Air at 60 Meters

Khaberni - Dozens of tourists faced a terrifying experience after a panoramic tower ride suddenly stopped at a height of 59 meters above the coastal city of Balneário Camboriú in Brazil.

The Super Giro tower stopped spinning while carrying a group of visitors and staff, then began to descend slowly before stopping completely in mid-air.

Lawyer André de Oliveira Couto, who was on the ride with his family, said that the ride began to descend gradually and then suddenly jerked and froze in place, according to the newspaper "Metro".

Viral video clips showed passengers hanging in the air, while rescue teams secured ropes and safety equipment, and began to lower people one by one down the side of the tower using maintenance outlets designed for construction.

Visitors reported waiting inside the cabin for long periods, while park staff later explained that the ride’s safety lock was automatically activated after a power outage.

The process of lowering about 40 people, including tourists and workers, began with ropes, before the arrival of a ladder truck to speed up the extraction of the rest, and Couto said: "We were there for more than two hours, and they were lowering people with ropes".

Meanwhile, Unipraias Park confirmed that all passengers were evacuated through the emergency exit, supported by trained safety teams, and mentioned that the ride is undergoing comprehensive maintenance before resuming operation.

The Super Giro tower was opened just 3 months before the incident, accommodating up to 50 people on a single trip, and operates about 300 trips daily, offering panoramic views from a height of nearly 300 meters above sea level as it spins at the top.
