Khaberni - The administration of the zoo in Zawraa Park in the Iraqi capital Baghdad confirmed on Saturday that the incident of a tiger devouring a child's feet occurred due to a blatant violation of the site's posted instructions and warnings.
A video clip showed a tiger devouring a child's feet in Zawraa Park in the capital Baghdad during the festival, before his foot was pulled from the tiger's jaws.
In a statement, the zoo administration in Zawraa Park said, "The zoo management would like to clarify what has been circulated about an incident that occurred inside the park: One of the visitors, with his friends, bypassed and crossed the security fence and entered an area designated for the predatory animal care staff, where he tried to approach and harass one of the Siberian tigers, which resulted in him sustaining a foot injury after the animal managed to pull it inside the cage."
The administration confirmed that "the incident occurred as a result of a blatant violation of the instructions and warnings posted at the site," noting that "the case was handled by the guards and the on-duty staff, and the child was rescued and transferred to the hospital to receive treatment, and his condition is currently stable and he is receiving necessary medical care."
The administration of the zoo in Zawraa Park warned that "crossing barriers or approaching animals, especially predators, poses a real danger to life, and may lead to serious consequences that are regrettable."
The administration mentioned, "Safety is a shared responsibility, and adherence to instructions is not an option but a necessity to protect everyone," confirming that it "is not responsible for any harm that results from violating instructions or crossing security fences."
