Jordanian Unit Specialized in Womens Complaints During Public Transport Use

Khaberni  -  Minister of Transport Dr. Nidal Al-Qatamin announced plans to establish a specialized unit within the Land Transport Regulatory Commission that deals with receiving complaints from women related to the use of public transport, during his sponsorship of the launch event of the «Safe Arrival» project organized by the Women's Economy Foundation, with the participation of official entities, civil society institutions, and transportation and community safety experts and specialists.
Dr. Al-Qatamin confirmed that the new unit would operate according to the best global practices in protecting women in transportation systems and would include trained staff for professional handling of complaints and reports, ensuring confidentiality, quick response, and coordination with relevant authorities. He mentioned that the unit would rely on artificial intelligence tools to analyze reports and data and monitor repeated patterns, which helps in early identification of problems, dangerous locations, and improving intervention and treatment efficiency.
He explained that the unit would serve as a national reference for collecting and analyzing data and statistics related to abuse cases in public transport, contributing to supporting decision-makers with precise data to develop policies, regulatory and monitoring procedures, in addition to designing awareness and training programs for workers in the sector. He noted that this initiative would be implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation to communicate with donor agencies and provide necessary support with advanced technical tools, along with coordination with the Ministry of Social Development and the Family Protection Department, in compliance with regulating legislations, and in cooperation with the Amman Vision for Bus Transport project and smart transport application companies.
The minister emphasized that enhancing women's safety in public transport is no longer just a service issue but a developmental and economic priority that contributes to increasing women's participation in the labor market and assisting them in obtaining jobs, in accordance with the International Labour Organization's directions in this context, reasserting the ministry’s commitment to developing a modern and safe transportation system through the use of technology, application of monitoring and tracking systems, and building effective partnerships with civil society institutions and related entities.
