US Secretary Announces Mandatory Body Cameras for All Homeland Security Officers

Khaberni  - US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced on Monday that all her department's field officers, including members of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will be immediately equipped with body cameras.

Noem  revealed the decision via the social media platform "X," explaining that the body-worn camera program would be expanded nationwide as funding becomes available.

She said in her post: "We will quickly purchase and deploy body cameras for law enforcement officers from the Department of Homeland Security across the United States."

The announcement about cameras comes at a time when the city of Minneapolis is under intense scrutiny regarding the conduct of immigration law enforcement agents.

This follows escalated calls from critics of the Department of Homeland Security to mandate all officers responsible for enforcing immigration laws to wear body-mounted cameras.

It is noteworthy that the former US President Joe Biden had issued an executive order in 2022 mandating federal law enforcement officers to wear body cameras, among other measures to reform police practices, although President Donald Trump canceled this directive after the beginning of his second term.
