Khaberni - Turkish authorities arrested an Israeli woman on charges related to insulting the Turkish flag and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as offending the state of Palestine, in a development that reflects the escalating regional anger towards Israel.
Images spread on Turkish social media platforms documenting the moment the woman was arrested in Taksim Square in central Istanbul, where a Turkish policeman is seen handcuffing her before taking her to the police station, where she is still being held pending further investigations, according to the Hebrew newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth".
This arrest comes at the peak of political and public tension between Turkey and Israel, against the backdrop of the ongoing aggression on Gaza Strip, and the Israeli assaults on Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, which sparked widespread anger in the Turkish street.
In this context, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated in remarks to "Al Jazeera" Channel that Ankara will not resume trade relations with Israel as long as the war continues and humanitarian aid is not allowed into Gaza, emphasizing that the problem is not with "Israel as a state" but with its genocidal policy towards the Palestinian people.
Fidan explained that the Turkish boycott is political, ethical, and conditional, in a clear message reflecting the growing isolation Israel is facing regionally due to its crimes in Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced that the case is under follow-up by the Department of Israeli Affairs Abroad, without providing any indications of the imminent release of the detained Israeli woman.
