Study Uncovers Why Children in Natural Environments Have Less Allergies

Khaberni - Doctors have noticed that children who grow up in natural environments rich in biodiversity, such as farms or homes with pets, are less prone to allergies, yet the scientific explanation has remained elusive for years.

A recent study conducted by researchers from Yale University, published in Nature magazine, revealed that early and diverse exposure to microorganisms and natural proteins helps establish what resembles a "broad immunological memory," making the immune system more balanced and less likely to overreact to allergic triggers.

The research relied on comparing mice raised in a natural environment rich in microbes to those raised in a sterile environment. When both groups were exposed to common allergens, the mice from the natural environment showed greater resistance to allergies, while the sterile mice had more severe reactions.

The researchers explained that early environmental exposure stimulates the production of IgG antibodies, which reduce the chance of allergies, instead of IgE antibodies associated with allergic reactions. Scientists believe that excessive cleanliness and the use of antibiotics in modern societies have contributed to increased rates of allergies and immune diseases.
