Khaberni - The House of Representatives approved on Sunday the draft law ratifying the extradition treaty between Jordan and Spain.
Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni said that the extradition treaty between Jordan and Spain serves as an implementation of the provisions of the criminals’ extradition law.
Talhouni explained during a session of the House of Representatives that the treaties are divided into two types: the first is extradition of persons, and the second is the transfer of those sentenced to privative penalties of liberty, in addition to legal and judicial assistance between the two countries, stressing that the public interest of both countries is considered in these treaties.
He clarified that the central authority designated by the state signing the treaty is the Ministry of Justice, according to the provisions of the signed treaties, noting that the ministry is responsible for receiving documents, data, and papers from the requesting party and sending them to the relevant authorities, where it acts as an intermediary in the implementation of these treaties.
Talhouni pointed out that the treaties stipulate the use of Arabic and Spanish languages, in addition to English as a neutral language used in case of any dispute between the two parties.
The minister confirmed that these treaties achieve Jordan's supreme interest, which involves the extradition and reception of persons, and enhances cooperation and judicial assistance, and it allows some Jordanians to spend their sentences within the kingdom instead of serving them in other countries.
