The government confirms The Umrah city project is still under preparation

Khaberni - Government Communication Minister and government spokesperson Mohammed Al-Momani, on Saturday, affirmed that the master plan and all details related to the Umrah city project "are still under preparation," emphasizing that the current activities in the specialized dialogue sessions about the city project are part of the preparation and listening to expert opinions, paving the way for moving on to detailed execution phases later on.

Al-Momani said that the specialized dialogue sessions that launched concerning the Umrah city project aim to involve experts and academics in formulating detailed visions of the project, confirming that all ideas and proposals are still under study within the preparation framework.

He explained that these sessions are not a single event but will continue in the coming period, across different sectors, to discuss best practices and details that ensure the realization of the project’s envisioned plan, indicating that Umrah city is not a new capital or an administrative city, but a comprehensive urban city, considering the Jordanian identity.

Al-Momani added that the government is keen on a correct start and clear governance, ensuring the project's long-term sustainability across governments, noting that the timing for tendering will come after discussing all details and completing the master plan.

He pointed out that the importance of these sessions lies in capturing participants' ideas and later turning them into actionable plans that address various sectors connected to the project, confirming that the government is embarking on this path with the principle of proactive planning and tight organization.

Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan inaugurated, on Saturday, the specialized dialogue sessions on the Umrah city project, with the participation of more than 150 experts and specialists from various relevant sectors, at the Prime Minister's Office.

The sessions kicked off to discuss the development of the Umrah city project, with the participation of experts and academics in the fields of engineering, urban planning, environment, transport, energy, water, economy, and investment, as well as representatives from related unions.

These sessions aim to listen to participants' opinions and benefit from their expertise to reach advanced models in developing sustainable cities, contributing to the foundation of a modern green city that respects sustainability standards, quality of life, and Jordanian identity.

The Prime Minister had launched the Umrah city project at the end of November 2025, where the infrastructure work in the project began, which will span development over 25 years, implemented across governments.
