Death of the Dean of Moroccan Song Abdelhadi Belkhayat

Khaberni  - Moroccan media announced on Friday evening the death of the esteemed artist Abdelhadi Belkhayat at the age of 86, following a rich artistic career that contributed to solidifying the status of authentic Tarab in the Moroccan national memory.

The late artist recently suffered a health setback which led to his hospitalization before his death was announced on Friday evening.

Moroccan media sources close to his family reported that Abdelhadi Belkhayat's body will be buried on Saturday in Casablanca.

The Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication mourned the late artist, describing him as "one of the immortal voices in the national artistic memory," confirming that he marked the Moroccan artistic scene with sophisticated works and sincere words, carrying deep aesthetic, spiritual, and human values.

The ministry pointed out in a post on its official Facebook page that the deceased left "a distinguished artistic and human path making him a symbol of authentic Moroccan song, and a name present in the consciousness of generations of Moroccans, with his sincere creativity and profound respect for art and its messages."

Abdelhadi Belkhayat was born in 1940 in the city of Fez and began his artistic career in the early 1960s. He is one of the most prominent voices that contributed to the foundation of modern Moroccan song. His name is linked to timeless works that were pivotal moments in the history of Moroccan song, including "Train of Life," "The Red Moon," among other works that have turned into artistic icons that transcended time and solidified his status as one of the most influential artists in the Moroccan music scene.

Despite retiring from the music scene more than ten years ago, the late artist's stature with the audience remained firm, even increasing in appreciation and loyalty, confirming that his artistic legacy will remain alive and inspiring for future generations.

The departure of Abdelhadi Belkhayat is a great loss to the Moroccan art scene, however, his musical legacy will continue to live in the hearts of his fans and remain a constant source of inspiration.
