The Forgotten Treasure A Simple Nutrient Reduces Cholesterol and Overlooked by Millions

Khaberni - A new study warns against sleeping on a high pillow, or two pillows, as this height has been found to increase the internal eye pressure in glaucoma patients, causing risks that threaten the ability to see.

Sleeping without pillows may help reduce high internal eye pressure

According to "The Independent", researchers found that eye pressure increased in more than two-thirds of patients (67%) when sleeping on two pillows, compared to sleeping on a flat surface.

The study suggests that this increase in pressure may be due to compression of the jugular vein, which carries blood from the head to the heart.

Ultrasound examinations conducted on healthy volunteers confirmed that the sleeping position on a high pillow leads to a significant constriction of the jugular vein cavity.

Experts suggest that glaucoma patients, in particular, may benefit from avoiding sleeping positions that cause this compression, with more research needed.

According to "The British Journal of Ophthalmology" which published the study, for further research, the researchers examined the effect of sleeping on two medium-sized pillows, with the head raised at an angle between 20 and 35 degrees, on the eye pressure of 144 glaucoma patients.

Among 70 participants who had normal pressure, 9 had high eye pressure, and 65 had primary open-angle glaucoma, the most common and slowest progressing form of this condition, typically caused by the blockage of the aqueous humor drainage channel.

The tests showed that sleeping without pillows may help in reducing high internal eye pressure, which accumulates causing damage to the optic nerve and glaucoma (glaucoma), the main cause of permanent blindness worldwide.
