Tesla Reduces Car Production to Enhance its Capabilities in Robotic Systems

Khaberni - Tesla, the American electric car manufacturer owned by billionaire Elon Musk, announced last Wednesday its intention to halt the production of its larger electric car models, Model S and Model X, to free up more production capacity for the robotics systems sector.

Musk explained during a conference call with analysts that the owners of these vehicles will continue receiving technical support for as long as they use their cars, adding that the production of these two models will gradually stop during the second quarter of this year.

The Model S, launched in 2012, was the first car to be fully developed within Tesla. It contributed to establishing the company's reputation for producing electric cars capable of competing with internal combustion engine vehicles dominating the market at the time, thanks to its long driving range, high speed, and distinctive design.

Model X, known for its distinctive falcon-wing doors, was launched in 2015. These models have undergone numerous updates since their launch. Recently, newer models such as Model 3 and Model Y have dominated Tesla's business, accounting for approximately 97% of Tesla's deliveries last year.

Tesla plans to use the current production lines for Model S and Model X cars to manufacture its humanoid robots, known as Optimus. Musk has previously stated that he aims to start selling these robots by the end of next year.

The company also intends to start producing fully autonomous robotaxis this year, branded as Cybercab, which will not include a steering wheel or pedals. Musk stated that Tesla anticipates producing many more of these vehicles in the future compared to any of its other models, adding that the electric truck Cybertruck is expected to evolve into a fully autonomous vehicle.
