Khaberni - The General Command of Dubai Police has urged the community not to share any personal or banking information with unreliable entities, to verify the identity of the caller or sender, and to avoid clicking on unknown links, to take preventive measures by using strong and different passwords for each account, enabling two-factor authentication, and regularly updating systems and applications to close security vulnerabilities, warning against fraudulent messages that pressure the recipient to make a quick decision.
This comes in conjunction with International Data Protection Day, which falls on January 28th each year, in an international celebration to raise awareness of the importance of protecting personal data and privacy in the digital world.
In detail, Dubai Police affirmed that the protection of personal and banking data is no longer an option, but a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation of individuals and institutions, amid the rapid development of digital technologies and the increasing methods of electronic fraud that target exploiting behavioral and technical vulnerabilities, pointing out that prior awareness is the first line of defense against these crimes.
Dubai Police added that personal data, such as identity numbers, contact details, banking information, and passwords, are highly sensitive digital data, and maintaining their confidentiality is the basis of trust between clients and service providers, pointing out the need to be cautious with any requests to obtain personal data, especially via phone calls, text messages, or untrusted emails.
Dubai Police noted that fraudsters create renewed methods, including impersonating official entities or banks, sending fake links requesting data updates, or enticing victims with bogus offers and nonexistent prizes, warning of urgent messages that pressure the recipient to make a quick decision, confirming that haste is one of the most prominent tools of fraud in its various forms.
Dubai Police called for the immediate reporting of any attempts of fraud or data breaches through the e-Crime cybercrime platform, the “Police Eye” service, or via the contact center 901, emphasizing that quick reporting contributes to minimizing damage, enabling the competent authorities to track down perpetrators and take necessary legal actions.
