The Deportation of an Egyptian Young Man from the UAE After He Called for Cutting the Hair of Women

Khaberni - Pages on social media platforms circulated claims about the deportation of an Egyptian young man by the UAE authorities due to his behavior and his incitement to cut the hair of unveiled women, which caused some controversy.

Although the accounts that shared the story claimed it was recent, the actual incident occurred about 3 years ago, and it caused a significant uproar at the time after the Egyptian young man residing in the UAE wrote on his Facebook account, inciting punishment of unveiled women by cutting their hair.

In the year 2022, the Egyptian young man Ibrahim Khalil wrote on his account: "If each one of us bought a pair of scissors and encountered any woman showing her hair, and cut her hair, you wouldn't find a single woman without a hijab."

These words sparked widespread anger and were described as incitement to violence, and were widely shared; which led the UAE authorities to arrest the young man and deport him to his home country, Egypt.

After his deportation, the Egyptian young man retracted his previous words and wrote another post expressing his regret, describing his situation at that time as a "test", affirming that what he wrote was meant as a joke and he never intended any "harm" to anyone.

And the young man Ibrahim Khalil wrote on his Facebook page: "The test I am in has taught me a very important thing, not everyone around you wishes you well, and not everything is a joke and laughter, but my friends and those on Facebook know very well that all the posts and comments are just fun and nonsense, and I swear by God I never wished harm to anyone nor to upset anyone even with a word."
