Khaberni - Reuters reported that the diplomatic adviser to the President of the UAE, Anwar Gargash, confirmed on Tuesday that his country might join international efforts led by the United States to ensure the safety and security of the Strait of Hormuz.
The agency quoted Gargash as saying during an event organized online by the Council on Foreign Relations that "the UAE may join international efforts led by the United States to ensure the safety and security of the Strait of Hormuz," noting at the same time that "there is no agreement on an official plan yet and that discussions are still ongoing".
He added: "It is all of our responsibility to ensure the flow of trade and energy".
Gargash noted that "once the American-Israeli war with Iran ends, there will be a need for an agreement that ensures Iran is not capable of using its nuclear, missile, or drone programs to terrorize the region".
These statements come amidst increasing concerns about the security of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively closed, at a time when US President Donald Trump is seeking to rally international support for deploying naval vessels to escort oil tankers through this strategic waterway.
Since February 28, Israel and the United States have been launching attacks on Iran, which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people, including the leader Ali Khamenei and security officials, while Tehran responds with missiles and drones towards Israel.
Iran also targets what it describes as American interests in Arab countries, causing fatalities and injuries and damaging civilian properties, which the targeted countries have condemned.
