Due to High Winds and Rain Algeria Suspends Classes

Khaberni - Algeria has decided to suspend classes on Wednesday and Thursday in most of the states, with warnings of high winds and rain that could significantly impact daily life.

The Algerian Ministry of Education announced the closure of schools for Wednesday and Thursday in most areas of the country, as part of precautionary measures related to a weather bulletin warning of strong winds that could reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

The ministry explained that the decision was based on an urgent telegram from the Ministry of Interior, Local Communities, and Transport, related to a special bulletin issued by the Meteorological Services, covering 52 out of 69 states, most of which are in the north where about 80 percent of the population resides.

The Civil Protection called on citizens to adhere to safety measures, including preparing alternative lighting sources, securing metal objects on roofs, balconies, and windows, and avoiding standing or passing near trees and electricity poles.

It also emphasized the necessity of reducing speed while driving in windy conditions, and to avoid traveling unless necessary, in order to prevent accidents due to sudden weather changes.

Over the past week, Algeria experienced heavy rainfall that resulted in the deaths of a man in his sixties in the state of Relizane, and a girl in the state of Chlef, according to data from the Civil Protection, along with recorded floods in several areas, including the capital and Tipaza.

In the same context, neighboring Tunisia was affected during the same period by rains described as intense, which resulted in deaths and material damages in several areas.
