Khaberni - The Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Muhammad Abdul Aziz Al Khalifi, announced on Monday the launch of a project to support the voluntary and safe return of Syrian displaced persons from Lebanon to their homeland in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration.
Al Khalifi said during a joint press conference with the Deputy Prime Minister of Lebanon, Dr. Tarek Mitri, in Beirut: "The cost of the first phase of the project is about 20 million US dollars, targeting about 100,000 people."
He explained that the project is based on a comprehensive humanitarian approach that includes securing suitable housing and providing food and medicine to the beneficiaries, contributing to their stabilization and facilitating their social reintegration after return.
Al Khalifi expressed his gratitude to the Syrian government for its constructive cooperation and facilitation in implementing this humanitarian and developmental project, noting that Qatar was among the countries supporting the efforts of the Lebanese government aimed at repatriating the Syrian displaced to their homeland.
He stated that this announcement comes as part of a package of Qatari developmental and humanitarian projects in Lebanon through the "Qatar Fund for Development," coordinated with the relevant Lebanese authorities according to legal and institutional frameworks.
The Qatari minister also mentioned that during his visit to Lebanon, he discussed bilateral cooperation relations and ways to enhance them in various fields, in addition to exchanging views on the latest political and security developments and prospects for economic and investment cooperation, affirming that Lebanon's stability is a fundamental pillar for the stability of the region.
This project comes as a continuation of joint coordination efforts aimed at accelerating the pace of the Syrian displaced returning to their homeland by offering logistical and relief incentives that ensure the sustainability of their stability in their original areas. The initiative is part of a broader vision for economic and social recovery in Syria, through providing an appropriate residential and service environment.
