Khaberni - Professor Doctor Asim Al-Qudah, a consultant in ophthalmology specializing in corneal and eye pressure diseases, and Doctor Rami Al-Dweiri, a consultant in ophthalmology specializing in retina diseases, conducted a joint specialized operation that lasted about three hours and was successfully accomplished by the grace of God.
In detail, several months ago, the patient had suffered a severe penetrating injury in his right eye, which resulted in an explosion of the eyeball, where initial reconstruction was performed at another hospital. Upon the patient's visit to the ophthalmology clinics at King Al-Muassis Hospital two weeks ago, it was found that there was severe opacity in the cornea along with the loss of the lens and part of the iris. Ultrasound imaging also revealed bleeding in the vitreous fluid and partial retinal detachment.
The operation steps included Professor Doctor Asim Al-Qudah removing the damaged cornea and implanting a special lens secured in the back chamber of the eye, followed by the implantation of a temporary artificial cornea. Subsequently, Doctor Rami Al-Dweiri performed a vitrectomy and reattached the detached retina. The operation concluded with Professor Doctor Asim Al-Qudah removing the temporary cornea and implanting a natural (human) cornea obtained from an eye bank.
