In the Passing Dr Abdullah AlDamour
Author: عوض ضيف الله الملاحمة

Note: - Despite my proficiency in Arabic literature and my depth in English literature, I am not a poet, nor even a minor versifier, but rather I pour out my sorrows, my worries, and my teardrops which take the form of letters in my simple, sincere, direct words.

As if you never walked on this earth
And never loved your homeland, small or large
And never hated the enemies of your nation
.. nor cursed .. nor swore

And to Karak, of which you were a pillar
 .. you never claimed affiliation
And for beloved Palestine, you did not weep
.. nor did you wail

As if you never got angry ..
And the anger of the free .. you never committed
And as if your tears for our plight .. did not shed

And as if you didn’t cherish national thought ..
And regarding the plight of your nation ..
You did not grieve, nor lament, nor become depressed

I know you were brave .. bold
And in the face of manly challenges
.. you did not calculate cautiously
Like others
.. nor did you fear
.. nor were you terrified

Always holding your head high .. erect
And ready for the challenges of men .. always
.. alert and prepared

Loved by the free .. and by no others ..
.. were you cherished

Your memory will remain .. not to be forgotten ..
And from the hearts of your lovers .. it will not be erased

You left a manly legacy ..
Pure .. to be followed
A legacy of an Arab fighter
With pride .. to be emulated

You left us, Abdullah ..
And left .. a lump in the heart
And your fragrant story in hearts
.. has become a legend

Your story is like incense
.. and the finest of fragrances

And here you are now …
In the presence of .. the Knower of the Unknown

And I know .. that your specter
From my mind .. will not depart
And will not vanish

Sleep peacefully ..
After you have dismounted ..
Oh, the formidable knight.
