Article in The New York Times Trump a President Not American

Khaberni - A prominent opinion writer in The New York Times described the American President Donald Trump as a "non-American" president because, in her view, he distorts the values upon which the United States was founded, such as "caring for each other and respecting each other's rights", thus he has undermined America's essence.

With a sharp critical tone, Maureen Dowd said in her weekly column in The New York Times last Saturday that America is supposed to be led by a unifying president with a strong and reassuring presence, whereas President Trump behaves like a disorderly child.

She added that President Trump continuously causes disruptions around the world, oversteps boundaries, reshapes everything in his chaotic image, and pays no attention to calm dialogue, instead wanting to ignite fires.

Dowd launched her criticisms of the current administration from her disgust as she listened to the "American National Anthem" after it became mandatory at the events of the National Symphony Orchestra by decision of "our selfish president and his creepy sycophantic entourage, who show nothing but contempt for the Constitution and American values".

The writer regretted that President Trump, in her view, has destroyed the ideals that made America a shining beacon of democracy, and Americans are now seen as villains, selfish, chaotic, and aggressive.

Attempting to Overturn the System

The writer substantiated her argument with the testimony of the former American special investigator Jack Smith who said last Thursday in front of Congress that President Trump attempted in 2021 to overturn the governing system and endangered legislators and his vice, Mike Pence.

Smith said in his testimony that the investigations revealed that Donald Trump was the person who caused the events of January 6, 2021, and that this was "to be expected from him, and he sought to exploit the violence".

The writer expressed her annoyance as she sees America on the eve of its 250th founding anniversary led by a president who distorts all the values it was built upon, and stated that this country is not supposed to be a place where a child in his fifth spring is arrested by masked immigration officers.

The writer criticized President Trump for feeling entitled to everything he desires: Greenland, which he mentioned at the Davos forum "all I want is a piece of ice", and Canada and the Kennedy Center up to the Nobel Peace Prize which he did not win.

She noted that unlike his predecessors in the White House, President Trump does not confront Russia, but rather flatters it and belittles the soldiers of NATO member countries who died for America in Afghanistan, and underestimates Canada claiming that it "lives thanks to the United States".

Excesses of the Immigration Administration

Regarding President Trump's performance in tackling illegal immigration, the writer cited a new opinion poll conducted by The New York Times and Siena College, and said most participants believe that Immigration and Customs Enforcement has exceeded its limits.

She commented on the current disturbances in Minneapolis (Minnesota) due to interventions by immigration agents, saying it turned into a terrifying war zone after the immigration administration claimed that its officers are allowed to break into people's homes without judicial orders.

Dowd listed the excesses of immigration staff in Minneapolis where one of them shot an unarmed mother dead, dragged a naturalized American citizen, with no criminal record, from his home to the snow, dressed only in his underwear. The same administration also detained 4 children from one school district.

She commented on these excesses by saying that Trump's supporters fail to distinguish between a criminal who crossed America's borders illegally and a family who applied for asylum and is doing everything possible to stay in America legally.
