Abbas meets Putin in Moscow

Khaberni  - The Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) said Thursday that President Mahmoud Abbas met in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they discussed the latest developments in the occupied territories.

The agency reported that Abbas briefed Putin on the latest political developments and the situation in the Palestinian territories, especially what is happening in the Gaza Strip.

Abbas stressed the need to fully implement U.S. President Donald Trump's plan, leading to the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza and the start of the reconstruction process.

Abbas emphasized “the central role of the Palestinian National Authority in managing the sector and unifying Palestinian land”.

For its part, the Russian news agency TASS reported Putin telling Abbas that Russia is ready to send one billion dollars from its frozen assets in the United States to the Peace Council initiative put forward by President Trump, to support the Palestinian people.

The Russian news agency Interfax also reported Putin saying that the idea of using Russian frozen assets for the Peace Council had been discussed earlier with the United States.
