Palestinian child narrates shocking details after a week in Israeli prisons

Khaberni - Palestinian child Thaer Hamail (12 years old) recounted the moment of his arrest at dawn on April 14, before a series of transfers and investigations revealed, according to his narrative, harsh detention conditions inside several centers belonging to the Israeli occupation, ending with his placement in Ofer prison west of Ramallah.

Thaer says in his conversation with Al Jazeera that the occupation forces arrested him at dawn, then transferred him to "Al-Asur" camp near his town, where he was kept outside in the cold for about an hour.

He was then transferred to another camp called "Jebait" near the village of Al-Mughayyir northeast of Ramallah, and was detained in a very small room with another prisoner for about 5 hours.

The child continues that he was later transferred to "Binyamin" investigation center, where he was subjected to beating and choking during the investigation, pointing out that he was accused of belonging to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Islamic State organization, and described as a "saboteur", and was kept handcuffed throughout the investigation period.

He adds that after that, he was transferred to Ofer prison, and continued to face mistreatment during the transfer, while keeping his hands painfully restrained.

He mentions that the conditions in the juvenile section of the prison were difficult, both in terms of food and treatment style, on top of being forced to kiss the Israeli occupation flag.

Thaer describes the daily life details inside the section, saying "the mattresses are pulled daily from seven in the morning until two in the afternoon, without consideration for the young age of the detainees", in reference to the procedures he says increase the difficulty of the detention conditions.

According to field data, about 9600 Palestinian prisoners are held in the occupation jails, including 350 children and 86 women. They face a reality titled "revenge", through rounds of oppression, and deprivation of food, medicine, and blankets.

Furthermore, the number of administrative detainees reached about 3523 people -according to Palestinian institutions specialized in prisoners' affairs- and this is the highest ratio compared to the categories of prisoners who are convicted or detained, alongside those classified as unlawful combatants.

The number classified under this name has reached 1251 detainees, noting that this number does not include all detainees from the Gaza Strip held in camps belonging to the Israeli army.
