Khaberni - A Portuguese young man started a fire on the statue of his fellow citizen Cristiano Ronaldo, a star of Saudi Al-Nassr, at the entrance of the Ronaldo Museum located in Madeira Island, the birthplace of "the Don".
The young man did not stop there; he filmed himself pouring a flammable substance on Ronaldo’s bronze statue before setting it on fire and posting the video on his Instagram account.
As the flames engulfed the statue and reached its upper part, the young man stepped back and then started to dance to rap music that was playing from a speaker he had brought with him.
Although the flames fully engulfed the statue initially, they quickly died down.
The Portuguese young man accompanied the video with a bizarre phrase: "This is the last warning from God," according to the British newspaper "Daily Mail."
The police identify the perpetrator
In the meantime, the Portuguese police in Madeira have identified the person who set fire to Ronaldo’s statue, although he tried to hide his face in the video. However, they have not yet arrested him as the search continues.
A police source stated, "The identity of the perpetrator of this crime has been determined and he is known to us due to similar past incidents."
A spokesperson for the Ronaldo Museum commented on the incident, saying, "The case is being investigated by the police, we have nothing to add at this stage."
This incident is the second time Ronaldo's statue has been subject to acts of vandalism. In 2016, several individuals engraved the name and number of Argentine star Lionel Messi on it, according to the Spanish newspaper "Sport".
The Ronaldo Museum, which opened in 2013, displays a wide collection of jerseys and awards that highlight the career of the Don. Since its opening, thousands of tourists have visited, and many have taken photos inside.
