520 licenses for satellite internet service stations in Jordan

Khaberni - Last year, the number of (VSAT) satellite internet service stations in Jordan was 520, distributed across three licensed companies in Jordan providing the same service, according to data from the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

According to the data, the total number of new frequency licenses completed was 6494.

The number of renewed licenses reached 16556, while the amended ones were 2447 and the cancelled ones were 3312.

(VSAT) stands for Very Small Aperture Terminal, which are small devices and stations used to provide internet service through direct connection to satellites, without the need for terrestrial networks such as fiber optics or telephone lines.

Satellite internet is a vital complement to existing mobile phone networks and fixed lines, according to a previous statement by Jawad Abbassi, Head of Middle East and North Africa at the GSMA.

Subscribers to this service can access the internet through a dedicated and fixed communication system provided by the company, principally comprising an external receiving antenna and an internal device.
