Cold Water for Weight Loss Myth or Healthy Fact

Khaberni - Studies have shown that drinking one cup of cold water can contribute to calorie burning and is a simple but beneficial step when incorporated into a comprehensive health routine.

Although this habit alone is not enough for significant weight loss, it stimulates the body to work harder to maintain its normal temperature, leading to the consumption of extra energy, according to experts.

Experts discuss the natural heat generation process that the body undergoes to heat the cold water when it enters the stomach, where the water temperature gradually rises to body temperature, burning about 8 calories per cup (250 ml).

According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, drinking half a liter of cold water can increase the metabolic rate by up to 30% for about an hour.

Throughout the day, this habit can have a tangible effect; drinking five cups a day burns about 40 calories, which is roughly 1200 calories a month, equivalent to a light exercise session.

Burning calories is not the only benefit; cold water refreshes the body and increases alertness, and may reduce the feeling of hunger temporarily, helping to reduce the intake of snacks.

However, nutrition experts warn against the belief that drinking cold water alone will lead to rapid fat loss. It partially supports metabolism, but it is not a substitute for a balanced diet, regular exercise, or good sleep. When combined with a healthy lifestyle, this simple habit can be an effective addition to boost burning and support sustainable weight loss.
