Jordan condemns the demolition of buildings by the occupation inside the UNRWA compound in Jerusalem

Khaberni - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation police forces for demolishing buildings inside the UNRWA compound in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem; considering this a serious escalation and a blatant breach of international law, and a violation of the immunities and privileges of United Nations organizations.

The ministry's spokesman, Ambassador Fuad Al-Majali, confirmed the kingdom’s outright rejection and strong condemnation of this unlawful and illegitimate act, and Israel's ongoing systematic campaign to target UNRWA, its presence, and its vital activities that cannot be canceled or substituted in providing its services to Palestinian refugees in its five areas of operation, according to its UN mandate.

Al-Majali pointed out that the Israeli measures aim at the existence and symbolism of UNRWA which affirms the right of Palestinian refugees to return and compensation according to international law, clearly persisting in an attempt to deprive the Palestinian people of vital rights and services acknowledged by the international community and relevant UN resolutions, particularly resolution 194.

Al-Majali warned of the repercussions of these unlawful Israeli measures against UNRWA and its institutions, urging the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities, to confront the Israeli decisions and practices targeting UNRWA, and to provide the necessary political and financial support for the agency to continue offering its vital services to Palestinian refugees.
