Due to Red Mercury Egyptian Media Council bans Mido from television appearances

Khaberni - The Supreme Council for Media Regulation in Egypt has decided to mandate all media outlets to ban the appearance of the current media personality and former Zamalek player, Ahmed Hossam (Mido), until the investigations regarding his statements, which were considered offensive and cast doubt on the sporting achievements made by the Egyptian national team between 2006 and 2010, are completed.

The council clarified in an official statement published today (Monday) on its Facebook platform that this decision is based on a report from the General Administration of Monitoring affiliated with the council, and the recommendations presented by the Complaints and Content Committees, in the context of preserving the image of Egyptian sports and its icons.

The statement added that the Complaints Committee is scheduled to set a hearing for Mido to confront him with the accusations attributed to him, after which the final recommendations of the committee will be submitted to the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, to take the appropriate legal decision in this matter.

Mido had confirmed in television statements that the Egyptian national team between 2006 and 2010 used to employ a "Sheikh" to recite over the players and chose numbers for them to wear during the African Cup.

He continued: “Shoes were taken from players to put (talismans) on them, and sprinkle them with water, while the Egyptian Football Association was purchasing (red mercury), in addition to the (school of sheikhs) that was present behind the substitutes' benches in many clubs.”
