Khaberni - Morocco's national team climbed to the eighth position in FIFA's team rankings, despite losing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final at their home stadium against Senegal.
Senegal won the continental title by a goal to nil against Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat, pushing "the Teranga Lions" up to the 12th place in the team rankings.
With this advancement, the Moroccan national team returned to the top ten globally for the first time since 1998, surpassing Belgium, Germany, Croatia, and Italy.
By reaching the eighth position, the Moroccan national team now holds the record for the best ranking of an Arab national team in the history of FIFA rankings, overtaking the previous record held by the Egyptian team, which reached the ninth position globally in 2010, following a series of excellent results since reaching the World Cup semi-finals as the first Arab team in history to achieve this stage.
At that time, the Egyptian national team had surpassed in the FIFA rankings teams such as Chile, Italy, and France after dominating the Africa Cup of Nations in three consecutive editions in 2006, 2008, and 2010, in addition to defeating Italy at the 2009 Confederations Cup.
The Egyptian national team finished fourth in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations competitions after losing to Nigeria in a penalty shootout.
