Khaberni - The Egyptian authorities have opened an extensive investigation into a complaint filed by media personality Basma Wahba against artist Maya Diab, due to controversial statements.
The Public Prosecution in Egypt has opened an extensive investigation following the referral of the complaint filed by media personality Basma Wahba against Lebanese artist Maya Diab, based on the latter’s statements related to artist Dina El Sherbini and the divorce crisis of artist Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz from his wife Ann El Refai.
The Public Prosecution is scheduled to summon media personality Basma Wahba on Tuesday to hear her statements regarding the complaint filed against Maya Diab, as part of the judicial authorities' follow-up of the investigation into the accusations directed at the Lebanese artist.
Basma Wahba's lawyer, Heidy El Fadaly, filed the official complaint, demanding that Maya Diab be barred from entering Egypt, based on her statements described as "offensive" to Egyptians, after she expressed her opinion on Karim Mahmoud Abdel Aziz's divorce in terms considered provocative.
Basma Wahba’s stance has sparked widespread controversy on social media platforms, after she appeared in a video clip where she vehemently attacked Maya, stating that the issue concerns Egyptians only, and questioning why a Lebanese artist should intervene, which led her to resort to legal measures.
The complaint stated that Basma Wahba accused Maya Diab of insulting Egyptians, based on her statements that included the phrase "shut your mouths," which was considered a direct offense to Egyptians and a breach of local laws, according to what lawyer Heidy El Fadaly stated.
The Fadaly also filed another complaint with the relevant authorities, demanding that the Lebanese artist be barred from entering Egypt, in order to respect the laws and protect national dignity, based on the controversial statements recently made by Maya Diab on social media.
