Khaberni - A recent study has shown that foods targeted at children often contain artificial colors, including flavored yogurt, fruit juices, potato chips, nuts, and canned sweets. These colors, which are used to make the products more visually appealing, may impact children's behavioral health and increase hyperactivity, according to the California Environmental Health Agency.
According to experts, children are more susceptible to the effects of these chemicals due to their developing bodies.
Although some brands and fast-food chains have started to reduce the use of artificial colors, they are still present in many products on store shelves, even in some products that consumers might not expect.
The color Red No. 3 has recently been banned, and there is another bill that bans six common artificial colors in public schools.
Nutrition experts say that parents who want to reduce their children’s exposure to artificial colors should follow practical strategies including:
Reducing the consumption of canned foods: Processed and canned foods often contain artificial colors.
Carefully read labels: Look for products that do not contain these chemicals.
Increasing water intake: Reducing soda drinks lowers exposure to artificial colors and artificial sweeteners.
Offering healthy homemade alternatives: such as preparing yogurt with fresh fruit, nuts without colors, home-baked bread or biscuits, and even homemade potato chips and dark chocolate with nuts as snacks.
Providing attractive alternatives instead of prohibiting food: like fresh fruit instead of canned meals.
Choosing certified organic products: These do not contain artificial colors.
Focusing on naturally colored fruits and vegetables: such as strawberries, grapes, and squash, to be visually appealing alternatives for children.
Diversifying the diet: Diversity reduces exposure to specific harmful substances and covers nutritional needs.
By following these steps, parents can protect their children from the negative effects of artificial colors, while maintaining a healthy and visually enjoyable diet.
