Reuters Syrian forces control two oil and gas fields in the east

Khaberni - Three security sources reported on Sunday that the Syrian forces, engaged in clashes with Kurdish-led forces, have taken control of the Omar oil field, the largest in Syria, and the Conoco gas field in the east of the country.

The Syrian army announced after midnight on Saturday-Sunday its control over the strategic city of Tabqa and the adjacent Euphrates Dam in the north of the country, marking another step forward in its advance against the Kurdish forces that have had self-administration for more than ten years in the region.

Earlier, the Syrian army confirmed its control over the Tabqa military airport just hours after beginning its entry into the strategic city adjacent to the country’s largest dam, one of the largest hydroelectric power facilities in Syria. Tabqa serves as a transportation hub along the axis connecting Aleppo to eastern Syria and borders the airport which has turned into a strategic military base.

Before that, the army announced on Saturday morning that its forces had taken control over large areas of the eastern Aleppo countryside, following the Kurdish forces' agreement to withdraw from it, and threatened to bomb Raqqa province where self-administration has imposed a curfew.

The official Syrian news agency (SANA) quoted the Minister of Information, Hamza Mustafa, saying "The Syrian army controls the strategic city of Tabqa in the countryside of Raqqa, including the Euphrates Dam, the largest dam in Syria."

The "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF), led by the Kurds, announced on their part that they "took the necessary measures and restored security and stability" to this area located about forty kilometers from Raqqa.
